“I won’t have her here Draco!” roared Lucius, and at once Draco was no longer a young man, but a boy.
“Father-” he began quietly, but was cut off.
“I forbid it! You may have disgraced yourself boy, but I won’t have you disgrace the name of Malfoy by bringing her here.” said Lucius, venom in his voice.
“Father, it doesn’t matter that she’s not a pureblood! I love her, for Merlin’s sake!”
“Draco Malfoy, if you step one foot across the threshold of this house with that filthy mudblood, I will disown you in a heartbeat.” Lucius proclaimed evenly, as if the idea of casting out his own son mattered nothing to him.
“Don’t call her that.” Draco growled, his eyes darkening with protectiveness.
“That L/N is nothing but a disgrace to the wizarding world. A mudblood.” repeated Lucius, pronouncing each syllable in a taunting way, watching as Draco’s face reddened with fury.
A scream ripped from Draco’s throat as he grabbed a crystal goblet and threw it with startling force at the wall, panting heavily as tiny fragments of glass fell to the ground. Lucius didn’t even flinch.
With that, Draco stormed out of the house, the cackles of his father ringing in his ears.
*time skip*
“I just don’t know how he could say those things Y/N.” Draco whimpered, feeling save in his lover’s arms.
“Don’t listen to him Dray. The war’s over now - you’re not a child any more. He doesn’t matter unless you want him to.” you whispered soothingly, trailing your fingertips down his cheek.
“I’ve had it drilled into me from the moment I was born: you’re a Malfoy; you’re a pureblood; you’ll marry a pureblood; you’ll uphold the name Malfoy. I just feel so useless.” he laughed bitterly.
There was a moment of silence until you sat up suddenly.
“Let’s run away.” you said determinedly.
“Run away?”
“Yeah! What’s stopping us Draco? My parents were killed in the war; you have no life with yours any more. Let’s just go, right now, and see what happens.” you said, animatedly waving your arms around.
“You’re crazy, you know that right Y/N?” chuckled Draco, pulling you down into a kiss.
“Oh I know.” you gasped, pulling away for air.
“And that’s why I love you.”
